Zacks Initiates Coverage of ORBT With Neutral Recommendation

Read MoreHide Full Article

Zacks Investment Research has recently initiated coverage of Orbit International Corp. (ORBT - Free Report) with a Neutral recommendation, reflecting a balance between improving order bookings, expanding defense-related opportunities and persistent financial challenges. The company designs and manufactures customized electronic components, subsystems and power supply solutions for military and commercial applications.

Orbit International's expanding order book supports revenue visibility through 2027. Consolidated bookings exceeded $3.5 million in August 2026, while backlog stood at $13.1 million as of June 30, 2026. Power Group bookings through August increased 46.8% year over year, highlighting stronger customer demand. These orders provide a foundation for future production activity, although shipment timing remains important.

Growing defense-related opportunities could also strengthen the Electronics Group's prospects, as highlighted by the research report. In August 2026, its Simulator Product Solutions subsidiary secured an approximately $1.2 million contract supporting a U.S. Navy training program. Higher subsidiary bookings and a 16.6% year-over-year increase in customer proposals suggest additional business opportunities extending into 2027, potentially supporting a recovery in Electronics revenues.

Improving gross margins offer another potential growth driver. During the first half of 2026, consolidated gross margin expanded to 24.8% from 20% a year earlier. The improvement was supported by stronger Power Group profitability, with segment revenues increasing 22.2%. Higher production volumes and a favorable business mix could further support operating performance if demand translates into profitable shipments.

Additionally, cost discipline and available manufacturing capacity could support operating leverage. Both business segments reduced selling, general and administrative expenses during the first half of 2026. With its principal manufacturing facility operating at approximately 70% capacity, Orbit International has room to accommodate additional production without immediately expanding its manufacturing footprint. Higher utilization could improve fixed-cost absorption and strengthen profitability over time.

However, persistent losses and Electronics Group weakness remain significant challenges, as outlined in the report. Orbit International incurred a net loss of $3.3 million during the first half of 2026. Electronics revenues declined to $4.7 million from $5.5 million, accompanied by deeper operating losses. Elevated corporate overhead expenses could further delay a sustainable earnings recovery despite improving Power Group performance.

Liquidity constraints add another layer of uncertainty. Operating cash outflows increased to $2.9 million during the first half of 2026, while cash reserves fell to zero as of June 30, 2026. Borrowings rose to $4.5 million, increasing financing pressures. Unresolved litigation also presents potential financial risks.

Orbit International's shares have significantly underperformed the broader market, reflecting investor concerns over its financial performance and growth prospects. The stock trades at a substantial discount to industry peers, potentially offering recovery opportunities.

Orbit International's improving order visibility and growth opportunities must be weighed against persistent profitability challenges and liquidity concerns, supporting a cautious investment stance. For more detailed insights and analysis, read the full Zacks Investment Research report on ORBT.
